Let’s get one thing straight:

Laziness and exhaustion are not the same thing.

But if you’ve been socialized—especially as a woman, a person of color, or someone in impact-driven work—you might be carrying a narrative that says:

“If I’m not producing, I’m not valuable.”

That narrative is both false and harmful.

The past few weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about the stories we tell ourselves when we hit a wall.
We say we’re falling behind.
We say we’re unmotivated.
We say we’ve lost our spark.
But most of the time?
We’re just tired. Mentally. Emotionally. Systemically.

Not broken. Not weak. Not lazy.
Tired.

And rest isn’t the reward—it’s the reset.

💡 What the research says:

Studies show that chronic stress and mental fatigue directly reduce executive function, focus, and memory. And yet—when we pause, reset, and take a break—we’re not “doing nothing.” We’re rebuilding our capacity.

It’s a lesson I’m re-learning all the time as a speaker, consultant, working mom, and human.
And I’m inviting you to reframe it with me.

✨ Try This: A Gentle Energy Check-In

Ask yourself these three questions today:

  1. What kind of tired am I? (Physical, emotional, social, mental?)

  2. What feels like it might restore me, even a little?

  3. Can I give myself permission to do just that, without guilt?

🌿 The Shift This Week

Instead of pushing through…
Try pausing.
Try naming your needs.
Try resting without judgment.

Because productivity doesn’t define your worth.
And you don’t need to earn rest—you need it to keep showing up with intention, clarity, and impact.

You’re not lazy. You’re tired.
Let’s treat that with the respect it deserves.

Until next week—stay grounded, and sparkle on. ✨

Rest Is Resistance by Tricia Hersey
This is a beautiful, bold manifesto that reclaims rest as a sacred, necessary act of liberation. Hersey, also known as The Nap Bishop, reminds us that our worth is not tied to productivity—and that in a system built to extract, rest becomes a form of protest.

“We are not machines. We are divine.”

It’s a field guide, a spiritual balm, and a call to dream of a well-rested world.
